Netcare 2025 Yearly Wrap-Up

It’s hard to believe we’re already in December 2025. This year brought a mix of change and growth, both within Netcare, and across the broader tech landscape.

Internally, we said goodbye to a few people on our team, but we also welcomed new members who have already added fresh energy and focus. For over 26 years Netcare has been supporting businesses with IT needs, and every year we meet new clients, face new challenges, and continue striving to deliver the best service we can.

What Changed in Tech in 2025

This year saw some major shifts impacting how businesses manage IT:

  1. Wider adoption of Windows 11 and macOS 14 pushed many organisations to update hardware and retrain staff on new operating systems.

  2. Cloud solutions became more sophisticated, with improved backup and disaster-recovery tools becoming standard for small and medium businesses.

  3. The rapid growth of generative AI brought both opportunity and risk. AI tools became more integrated into workflows but also opened new security vulnerabilities.

  4. Remote and hybrid work became firmly embedded, increasing reliance on VPNs, secure access, and zero-trust architecture.

  5. Greater focus on data privacy and compliance, especially as regulations and cyber insurance providers started enforcing stricter standards.

  6. These changes reinforced what we’ve believed for years: adapting ahead of time is safer and usually more cost-effective than reacting after something breaks.

Cybersecurity: The Big Theme of the Year

2025 confirmed what many have suspected: cybersecurity is no longer optional. Scams and attacks got smarter, and we saw some clear trends:

  1. AI-driven phishing and scam attempts rose dramatically.

  2. Business email compromise remained the number one threat.

  3. More clients adopted passwordless login and multi-factor authentication (MFA) for stronger protection.

  4. Kiwi SMEs grew more open to pre-emptive protection rather than waiting for problems.

  5. Many potential critical incidents were avoided thanks to proactive measures - from improved firewalls to better employee training - though exact numbers are often confidential.

  6. During all this, Netcare has aimed to be a calm, reliable voice in a noisy landscape. Our approach stays rooted in prevention, not panic, and in providing always-on, human support.

Looking Ahead at 2026: What We Expect to See

As we enter 2026, several trends seem likely to shape business IT:

  1. AI-driven threats are expected to continue rising in sophistication and frequency.

  2. Cyber insurance will become increasingly important, and more businesses will consider it essential.

  3. Companies with older systems are likely to modernise hardware and software.

  4. Simplicity and security will become key purchasing criteria - businesses will favour tools and services that are both robust and easy to manage.

  5. Passwordless login (biometrics, hardware keys) will continue to gain traction.

  6. More SME owners will invest in staff training and education around cybersecurity best practices.

  7. Automation will expand, with more day-to-day IT tasks and maintenance handled automatically - reducing human error and improving reliability.

  8. As things become more regulated, having the right security certifications and meeting compliance standards will matter more than ever. It helps businesses stay protected and shows customers they can be trusted.
